What microplates can I use when reading absorbance of samples in the UV range?
Both Corning-Costar and Greiner Bio-One offer disposable 96- and 384-well plates, specifically designed for low UV application. Since most plastic microplates have a very high absorbance when reading in the UV range (below 300 nm), quartz microplates can be used. Corning-Costar has introduced a plastic UV microplate (#3635 in their catalog), for reading absorbance of samples in the UV range. This plate has almost no background in the UV range, and therefore is ideal for reading absorbance of samples in this range.
