Direct Fluorescence Assay (DFA) is a one-step immunofluorescent binding method designed for microscopy. DFA is often applied to detect and identify viral diseases like Cytomegalovirus (CMV), a member of the Herpesviridae family. In DFA fluorescent probe tagged antibodies specific to viral antigen are added to sample cells along with Evans Blue counterstain. After washing, only infected cells retain the antibody.
